Biography
Hon. Mavis Kuukua Bissue Boateng is the Member of Parliament for Ahanta West Constituency in the Western Region of Ghana — a trailblazer whose election in December 2024 made her the first female Member of Parliament in the constituency's history since its creation in 1992. Hailing from the royal lineages of both the Ebiradze Clan (her father is a chief of Duahorozo) and the Apemayim royal family and Anona Clan (through her mother), Hon. Bissue stands at the intersection of tradition and transformation — a living symbol of the constituency's identity and its highest aspirations.
Her career is among the most remarkable and diverse of any member of the 9th Parliament. She served as a soldier in the British Army — a rare distinction among Ghanaian parliamentarians — where she developed the leadership discipline, strategic thinking, and composed decision-making that would define her public service. After returning to Ghana, she pursued careers in both teaching and construction project management, overseeing complex, multi-stakeholder infrastructure projects. This extraordinary range of experience — military service, classroom mentorship, and construction delivery — forged a parliamentarian of exceptional capability and resolve.
In the 2024 general election, Hon. Bissue polled 28,227 votes (58.94%), a resounding mandate from a constituency that had been governed by the NPP for most of its existence. Her most significant parliamentary initiative to date is the Ahanta Language Initiative — a landmark cultural preservation programme establishing a multi-stakeholder committee to integrate the Ahanta language into the school curriculum. Comprising the Ghana Education Service, traditional councils of Upper and Lower Dixcove and Ahanta, local churches, and Radio Ahanta, this initiative extends across all five constituencies of Ahantaland and represents one of the most comprehensive language preservation efforts in contemporary Ghanaian parliamentary work.
